Product Description
The Boss Industrial 7-ton electric log splitter is a powerful little splitter that still runs on a 15 amp 120-volt circuit. With the heart of the log splitter being the hydraulic system, Boss Industrial features a patented system with rotating valve that provides consistent splitting power and enhanced longevity vs. competitive models (sliding valve) that are less reliable and less durable.
A solid sturdy structure incorporating a handle and wheels make transporting this unit a breeze. This splitter also can have a 4-way wedge added as well, allowing you to split more logs in a shorter amount of time.
The single hand operation and auto return are great ease of use features improving the overall experience and safety. This unit is ready to go out-of-the-box FULLY ASSEMBLED and INCLUDES hydraulic fluid.
Boss Industrial stands behind its superior design and quality with a 2 year warranty including hydraulics (most are 1 year on hydraulics).

How to the define how powerful should be my log splitter?
Log splitters’ force is measured by Tonnage (5 Ton, 10 Ton, 20 Ton…), what represent the weight we’d need to place over the log to split it (instead of hitting it with an axe). When we use a 5 Ton log splitter it is like we place 10,000 pounds over the log to make it split.
OK but… how much Tons do I need to split my logs?
Considering you are going to split seasoned logs, the Tonnage (force) needed to split the logs is basically determined by two factors:
1) Tree’s hardness (Softwood or Hardwood?);
2) Logs’ thickness.
It happens because each different tree species may have different hardnesses and, also, the thicker is log, stronger it will be. So, to be sure that your log splitter will be able to split your logs, before taking the decision of which model you’ll be, we strongly recommend you to check on the table below what’s the Tonnage you’ll need, based on your Tree’s hardness and logs’ thickness.
Tree | Wood Type | 6 inches | 12 inches | 18 inches | 24 inches |
---|
Aspen | Softwood | 4 ton | 12 ton | 20 ton | 27 ton |
Spruce | Softwood | 4 ton | 12 ton | 20 ton | 27 ton |
Poplar | Softwood | 4 ton | 12 ton | 20 ton | 27 ton |
Fir | Softwood | 6 ton | 15 ton | 20 ton | 27 ton |
Pine | Softwood | 6 ton | 15 ton | 20 ton | 27 ton |
Cedar | Hardwood | 6 ton | 15 ton | 20 ton | 27 ton |
Walnut | Hardwood | 7 ton | 20 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Magnolia | Hardwood | 7 ton | 20 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Beech | Hardwood | 7 ton | 20 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Ash | Hardwood | 7 ton | 20 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Maple | Hardwood | 7 ton | 20 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Birch | Hardwood | 7 ton | 20 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Elm | Hardwood | 10 ton | 22 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Oak | Hardwood | 10 ton | 22 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Locust | Hardwood | 10 ton | 22 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Hickory | Hardwood | 10 ton | 22 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |
Dogwood | Hardwood | 10 ton | 22 ton | 26 ton | 30 ton |

Where can I use these log splitter?
On level and non-slippery terrain. The electric models can be used indoors/outdoors, however, the gas engine model can only be used outdoors.
What Log Splitter’s model do I need?
The most important points to select the best Log Splitter model is to know what of wood and also the thickness of logs you’ll need to split. Please check detailed orientation on “Force” Tab, inside the product’s page.
Is there any assembly required for my log splitter?
No. However depending on the model, you may need to assemble the operating level. See manual for instruction.
What’s the best for me, an Electric, Gas or Kinetic Log Splitter?
It mainly depends on the logs you’ll need to split (kind of wood and logs’ thickness). These information will define the splitting force you’ll need (how many Tons – please check detailed orientation on “Force” Tab, inside the product’s page). Usually for splitting forces of less than 10 Tons you’ll have good Electric Log Splitters, above this, Gas or Kinetic ones.
What kind of outlet do I need to operate my Electric Log Splitter?
115v, 60 Hz standard 3 prong outlet. See manual for additional information.

This splitter is awesome! Easy to use, move around and stores upright in such little space. It split everything I asked it to and did not use much power or overload our solar battery system. Very happy. My only suggestion is to relocate the mfg sticker as this came off within 6 hours of use.

Using with a generator and a 50-foot cord and there has been no problem with the splitter overheating and tripping the breaker. Using the 4-way wedge on soft wood there has been no problem except for crooked grain rounds getting hung up on the wedge. The 4-way wedge splits off two 1-2 inch smaller pieces at the bottom, saving me the trouble of doing it with a splitting maul. It works better to start near the edge of oak and work inward. There isnt enough power to split the hardwood rounds in half, so the work-around is fine. Even though the cycle time is slow, the dual action is great, and much faster and easier than splitting wood by hand. The racks are a perfect height, allowing me to toss the split rounds into a wheelbarrow parked next to the splitter.

There was no assembly required. Since this product has arrived my life has been so much easier. The delivered wood that I have delivered is often very chunky needing further splitting. This splitter eliminates the need for me to spend time and energy trying to split pieces that are knotty and often too big to fit into my wood stove. It cuts right through pieces with large knots without effort.
As my wife has said…”you should have bought this years ago”. My back agrees!

This splitter works great! I used it to split about a cord and a half of maple… it didn’t bog or stall once. Some of the pieces were easily in excess of 22″ in diameter and splitter powered through with no problems. The trees had been cut down a year ago so it was fairly dried out. I made sure I used a 25′ 12 AWG extension cord to avoid any electrical problems. If you need to occasionally split wood around your property, I would highly recommend this splitter. I do have two negatives but they are nothing to do with the splitter itself. The first issue is for Boss Industrial – don’t stick the model/serial number sticker along the beam, within three logs it was completely destroyed! The second issue is to the shipper (Home Depot?), don’t depend on just the manufacturer’s packaging to protect the item. The form fitting Styrofoam was completely trashed and the guard was all bent up. Nothing I couldn’t straighten out, but when I got the box dropped off I was really worried that there was real damage to the product. That kind of packaging is not robust enough for UPS shipping.
