How to the define how powerful should be my log splitter?

Uncrated and assembled part of the day was done. Added oil and gas to the engine started on second pull ran smoothly. The splitter did really well on three cords so far. The assembly instruction book is not easy to understand and the pictures are helpful. I recommend this equipment so far we are satisfied.

Bought this for my son so I have very little first hand knowledge. However he is very impressed with the speed and power. He has had some knotty wood that he has had to cycle the machine through twice but it has always split on the second time. But as he says he tries to stay away from knotty wood since it does not stack well. He heats with wood so it has been used a great deal in the last month or two.
